When it comes to getting a visa, acceptance may appear like a okay to purchase the initial obtainable ticket. Its cost is a costly one to make. The visa could be valid but the contract has not been signed, the employer would like you to arrive on a different date or the entry visa was linked to another passport number.
The most helpful checks following a Visas to Work permit are thus not restricted to the visa itself. Before you take a flight from Pakistan, be sure you’re legally ready to leave, the employer is ready to receive you, and both the ticket is in line with your documents, and the arrival plan is not reliant on an unverified guarantee.
The following 12 checks will be used as a booking gate. Green = You should proceed with caution. If there is a yellow result then the ticket should be waited. If the result is red, the employment and/or travel arrangement should be investigated.
1. Check the visa through the issuing country’s official system
Please not a PDF, screenshot or printed copy of a visa page as a definitive copy.
Use the official immigration/visa site of the country that issued the visa. Check against your passport and employment documents.
The applicable inquiry system for UAE visas depends on the Emirate that is visa issuing. The UAE Government has directed all applicants to obtain visas from ICP for Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, and for Dubai, the visas are checked via the GDRFA Dubai.
The official service offered by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) allows you to check the validity of your visa obtained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry of Interior of Qatar has a system in place for tracking visa applications and conducting visa inquiries for work and visit visa applications.
Check as much of the following as the official system displays:
- Applicant’s name
- Passport number
- Visa number
- Visa category
- Sponsor
- Occupation
- Issue date
- Validity
- Final entry date
- Current status
Please do not book if the official portal indicates unresolved application, expired record, incorrect passport details or visa category that is not applicable for the employment.
2. Separate visa validity from the final entry date
Visa dates may be multiple and do not necessarily refer to the same.
You may see:
- Date of issue
- Visa-validity period
- Final date for entering the country
- Permitted period of stay
- Employment-contract start date
- Employer’s requested arrival date
Never select the flight with the largest / newest date on the document.
Inquire with the employer when you are going to arrive and confirm the visa with the proper official website for the visa issuance and expiration dates. For instance, UAE’s visa-tracking instructions clearly lead to the systems for checking visa issuance and expiration dates.
Give the employer time to make accommodations, arrange transportation or get your employment on boarding process ready, but not so early that it becomes inconvenient to the employer.
3. Confirm that the passport will remain usable
Do not check an old copy of the passport, but open the original passport.
Confirm that:
- The name matches the visa.
- The passport number matches the visa.
- The passport is not damaged.
- The photograph remains recognizable.
- The expiry date meets the destination’s requirements.
- The passport contains sufficient usable pages where required.
The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) of Pakistan has announced that there is no need to wait until the passports expire and that it allows the renewal of passports online for both Pakistanis living in Pakistan and overseas Pakistanis.
If a visa has been issued however, renewing the passport after that may result in an additional step as the visa may still be attached to the previous passport number. Prior to renewal/replacement of passport, confirm procedure in the destination country.
Never book using a nickname or other name other than the passport. Spelling of middle names and spacing (including before and after) should be verified prior to payment.

4. Read the employment contract one more time
Don’t assume that the visa is for any work term.
Review:
- Employer
- Job title
- Workplace
- Basic salary
- Allowances
- Accommodation
- Food
- Transport
- Medical coverage
- Working hours
- Overtime
- Contract duration
- Probation
- Leave
- Deductions
- Return-ticket responsibility
When looking at the employer and occupation/destination, it should be consistent with the work visa or work permit.
The official process for obtaining employment in the UAE in the private sector is from a formal job offer to employment contract, work permit and work visa. According to UAE guidance, the employment contract should be based upon the signed offer, and any changes need to be agreed upon by the worker, and through the proper legal process.
In the case of Saudi employment, the contract-management service (QIWA) will allow an employee to approve, reject or request an amendment to the electronic contract.
Never buy a ticket, since the recruiter will make the corrections to the wrong salary, occupation or benefits after you arrive.
5. Obtain an employer-issued travel confirmation
Having a valid visa does not constitute that the employer expects you to arrive on the date you have chosen.
Ask the employer or verified recruiter for written confirmation containing:
- Approved travel date
- Destination airport
- Arrival terminal where known
- Employer contact person
- Initial accommodation
- Airport pickup arrangement
- Instructions for a delayed flight
- Confirmation of who is purchasing the ticket
Use verified info from the employer to contact them. Never use only the person’s payment number who is asking to be paid.
Wait and book when the visa has been issued and the employer has ceased to respond, has not confirmed the date of return or has failed to provide any information on who will pick you up.
6. Complete the applicable Protector process
It is not possible to register as a Protector whenever a ticket is bought by Pakistani workers.
BE&OE publishes two main emigrant-protection routes:
- Direct employment
- Employment through an Overseas Employment Promoter
For direct jobs, the list of published documents comprises of the visa, valid passport, CNIC, signed employment contract / approved letter of undertaking, insurance and other relevant documents. On the OEP route, the following requirements are required: Permission Number, Passport, CNIC, Insurance and Foreign Service Agreement.
According to the work-visa guidance published by FIA, the following documents are required for a work-visa travel: A valid passport, A valid visa and Protector stamp. Also, for certain countries, a work permit is required.
Please refer to the current BE&OE requirements prior to submission as there may be changes in document and certificate requirements. To find the Protectorate that is linked to the district of the present address in the CNIC use the official office finder.
If your departure documents are missing, then you don’t get a discount.
7. Recheck the recruitment permission when an OEP is involved
Overseas employment system licensees in Pakistan are private recruitment firms. Private recruitment firms that are licensed under the overseas employment system in Pakistan are Overseas Employment Promoters (OEP’s).
When an OEP arranged the job, confirm:
- The licence is currently valid.
- The representative is authorized.
- The agency address matches the official record.
- A job permission exists for the vacancy.
- The permission matches the country and occupation.
- The Foreign Service Agreement reflects the accepted terms.
- All payments have official receipts.
The job permission number and Foreign Service Agreement are part of the registration record that is used to register emigrant protection for the OEP route.
Wait to book a flight until the agency has a license but is unable to issue the permission corresponding to your job.
8. Establish who is responsible for the ticket
Remember, free ticket does not necessarily mean that the employer has already bought one.
Check the contract and obtain written answers to these questions:
- Is the employer paying for the initial flight?
- Is the recruiter purchasing it on the employer’s behalf?
- Are you expected to buy it and receive reimbursement?
- Is there a maximum reimbursable amount?
- Is the ticket one-way or return?
- Who pays for a change caused by delayed documentation?
- Who pays if the employer changes the joining date?
Avoid paying a high fare for non-refundable tickets when employer’s liability is unclear.
If paying for personal fare, be aware of the fare conditions. Conditions of air travel may vary according to the type of fare, route and booking channel. For instance, PIA’s official booking tips include a list of terms regarding refund, change and bag checks which it advises passengers to read before and after booking a ticket.
Keep the odds of winning and the confirmation of payment with your travel file.
9. Check the name, route and operating airline
Thoroughly review the suggested trip before making payment as you would for a legal contract.
Confirm:
- Passenger name matches the passport.
- Departure city is correct.
- Arrival city and airport match the employer’s instruction.
- Travel date matches the confirmed joining plan.
- Flight times use the correct local dates.
- The operating airline is identified.
- Every connecting airport is listed.
- Connection times appear realistic.
- The ticket is not split into unrelated bookings without explanation.
There may be more than one airport in a city. A wrong flight could lead to an expensive travel from airport and unsafe pickup.
If the route includes code share or interline flights, inquire about the different code share or interline airlines and the applicable baggage regulations. In cases of multiple airlines, the airline policies for the bags may differ.
10. Verify the reservation after it is created
A travel agent’s invoice is not always the same as a confirmed airline reservation.
Once a reservation exists, use the airline’s official “Manage Booking” or equivalent service. Enter the booking reference and passenger surname where required.
Check:
- Booking status
- Passenger name
- Flight numbers
- Dates
- Route
- Ticket number, where issued
- Operating carrier
- Baggage allowance
- Contact details attached to the reservation
A booking can exist before a ticket has been fully issued. Ask the airline or authorized agent to clarify any unclear status.
Official airline systems commonly allow travelers to review their booking and baggage information. Emirates directs passengers to check their ticket or use Manage Your Booking for the allowance included in the itinerary, while Qatar Airways provides baggage details in the booking confirmation and Manage Booking system.
Never send a second payment merely because a caller claims the reservation will disappear. Verify the demand through the airline or the original authorized booking channel.
11. Calculate the real baggage requirement
Do not book a fare based only on the flight price.
Check:
- Number of checked bags
- Maximum weight per bag
- Total weight allowance
- Cabin-baggage limit
- Dimensions
- Excess-baggage cost
- Restrictions on tools
- Power-bank and battery rules
- Medicine requirements
- Items prohibited by the airline or destination
PIA advises passengers to verify the free baggage allowance and permitted number of pieces before travel. It also advises against placing cash, jewellery, important documents and other valuables in checked baggage.
Baggage allowance can depend on the route, fare type and airline. Do not assume that another worker’s allowance applies to your ticket.
Carry the passport, visa, contract, Protector evidence, employer details, essential medicines and valuable documents in hand luggage rather than checked baggage, subject to airline and security requirements.

12. Approve the arrival plan before approving the payment
The final check is not about the aircraft. It is about what happens after you leave the terminal.
Before booking, record:
- Receiver’s name
- Receiver’s phone number
- Employer’s backup contact
- Pickup meeting point
- Accommodation address
- Transport method
- Procedure for flight delays
- Safe backup transport
- Emergency money
- Pakistan mission details
Confirm the pickup through the employer’s independently verified channel.
Do not enter a vehicle simply because someone displays your name at the airport. Ask the person to identify the employer, accommodation and pickup arrangement.
Share the itinerary and arrival plan with a trusted family member. Agree to contact them after check-in, after immigration, after landing and after reaching the accommodation.
Make the booking decision
After completing the 12 checks, place the case into one of three categories.
Ready to book
You may continue cautiously when:
- The visa is verified through an official system.
- Passport and visa details match.
- The contract remains acceptable.
- The employer confirms the travel date.
- Protector requirements are complete.
- The recruiter and job permission are verified where applicable.
- Ticket responsibility is clear.
- The route and baggage are suitable.
- Pickup and accommodation are confirmed.
This does not guarantee airline boarding, departure permission or entry into the destination country.
Delay the booking
Wait when:
- Protector registration is still in progress.
- The employer has not confirmed a joining date.
- The contract contains an unresolved difference.
- The passport may need renewal.
- The visa’s final entry date is unclear.
- The fare cannot be changed if the documents are delayed.
- The employer has not confirmed pickup or accommodation.
Stop and investigate
Do not book when:
- The official portal cannot verify the visa.
- The visa is for a visit rather than the stated employment purpose.
- Passport information is wrong.
- The employer denies issuing the offer.
- The contract has been substituted.
- The recruiter has no matching job permission.
- You are told to hide information at the airport.
- The ticket payment must go to an unrelated personal account.
- The sponsor or occupation has changed without a documented explanation.
The best time to discover a problem is before the ticket converts uncertainty into a financial loss.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I book immediately after my work visa is approved?
No. First verify the visa, passport, contract, Protector status, employer’s joining date and arrival arrangements. A valid visa alone does not confirm that the complete journey is ready.
Can I book while Protector registration is in progress?
You can technically make a commercial booking, but doing so may create financial risk if your departure documentation is delayed. FIA lists the Protector stamp amosa travel documents.
Should my ticket name include every word printed on my passport?
The booking should follow the airline’s naming requirements and remain consistent with the passport. Ask the airline before payment when your name contains unusual spacing, a long sequence or only one name.
How do I know whether an airline ticket is confirmed?
Use the airline’s official Manage Booking system or contact the airline through its official channel. Check the booking status, flight details and whether a ticket number has been issued.
What if the employer tells me to arrive at a different airport?
Request the new instruction in writing and confirm the pickup and transport arrangements. Check whether the new airport matches the visa, job location and employer’s practical plan.
Is the cheapest ticket the best option for a first-time worker?
Not necessarily. Compare refund ability, change penalties, baggage, transit complexity, arrival time and the employer’s pickup ability not only the advertised fare.
Can visa approval guarantee entry into the destination country?
No. Visa approval permits travel under stated conditions, but entry remains subject to the destination country’s immigration authority and the traveler’s complete circumstances.
